HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009

From JackTurtles
Today was a test! It tested our winter running mental readiness. Are you ready? I admit, I was a bit nervous. Would the trails be icy? Am I dressed warm enough? Will anyone else even show up? I pushed through my fears as it was all worth it to see Bill's huge smile as Concetta, the Fitzers and solo Robek (aka. Jeff) arrived a few minutes late. Well, the trails WERE very icy but we forged ahead cautiously thinking of yogurt sundaes and other breakfast treats. In fact, because we were running so slowly, I actually ran up all 3 hills! The fabulous five conquered the first winter storm of the year. If we can do it... so can you! Come on fellow JT's, don't let a little cold weather or late night partying keep you in the house on Sunday mornings.

Don't follow in their footsteps. Do you see the shame on their faces. The guilt? Hmm... it appears that while their friend/husband ventured out to join the JT's, a few others decided to sleep in. I am sooooooooooo PROUD of you, Jeff. You not only partied last night staying up to 2am but you woke up early to join us for a great run! At least your wife and the "Smithstagners" made a good decision and joined us for breakfast! So, really, what happened...

Anna? Are you really going to blame your absence at running club on an sweet, innocent child? Can you believe what some people will stoop too? Look at that face!

Sunday, January 4th... First official JT run of the year. Good turnout from Bill, Mona, Concetta, Eunice, Wendy and Derek.

Many of us have identified our fitness goals for 2009:
  • Christine - Run her FIRST 5K on May 2nd! Yippie!!!
  • Jeff - Run a 5K in under 27 minutes.
  • Bill - Support Christine's goal by pacing her through the whole race and to run a 5K in under 22 minutes.
  • Mona - Run the full 26.2 mile Columbus marathon.
  • Derek - Run a 30K and if that goes well then the full 26.2 mile Columbus marathon.
  • Concetta - Run her FIRST full 26.2 mile Columbus marathon.
  • Kristen - Run a half marathon in the fall.
  • Steve - Run a half marathon in the spring
  • Rose - Run a 5K in less than 30 minutes.
  • Tonja ?
Who else wants to set a 2009 fitness goal? Come on don't be shy Meg, Eunice, Wendy...hit comment and let us all know your fitness goals. We are here to support each other!

Isn't this a great picture? Several JT's spent New Year's down in Hocking Hills. We hiked 4 miles before we celebrated and rang in 2009 like only a bunch of JT's can. Yes, that is Coach T in the green hat. In fact, we'll be hearing a lot more from Tonja in 2009 as she has committed to monthly blog messages. Tonja, don't forget to add a few pictures too! Just email me your content and pictures and D-Cup will add it to the blog.

Check out this picture from the first annual JT awards ceremony at the Robek's house. What year is it? Does anyone know? Unfamiliar faces? Yes, a few of our lost JT's are in this picture. Starting with the second row, Christine, Doug (founding JT member), Jeff, Tonja, Matt Vail (original JT), Meg, Mona, Matt's lovely significant other and Kristen!

  1. I think the first annual JT awards was in 2007? Others? Mona

  2. My fitness goal is to run every other mile of the 1/2 marathon in Oct of 2009. And to not get any less decrepid. That's as far as I'll go!

  3. My calendar indicates that the first annual JT awards banquet was June 18, 2006. This is consistent with the fact that I was pregnant for the event. -Christine

  4. Nice! I knew that I could count on the Robeks to confirm the date! Wow, this club has been active for over 3 years now! Very impressive! Mona

  5. My Coach Mona said my goal was too wimpy. So - my new fitness goals are:
    1. Lose 30 pounds
    2. If I lose 30 pounds, and if my knees hold out: either run (jog) the half marathon or every other mile of the full marathon

  6. Anna may look sweet and innocent, but I distinctly heard here say that morning "Mommy, Kristen, Steve no run!" (but of course said "Bye bye Daddy" to me)

Hey I like that new Jack Turtles/Jack Daniels logo on the blog. Do you think we would be violating many copyright laws if we try and put that on a t-shirt? (this is where our resident lawyer might help us out)
